Introduce income tax claim benefits for environmental initiatives

Description

Currently, when you claim car travel miles for your tax return, the bigger the car, the greater you can claim & the more you travel, the more you can claim. There exists salary sacrificing incentives for people to own/use cars. Wouldnt it be great to see some tax and financial breaks for people who reduce waste! I'd like to explore some options!

Community based public transport for regional areas

Description

This proposal provides transport that is flexible to the needs of regional communities. The transport modes can be car pooling, car and bus hire. Access for these services will be through internet sites, local tourist bureaus and telecentres, depending on what services the community is able to access. The aim is to reduce harmful emmissions.

Home Electricity Use Meter

Description

This proposal involves installing electricity use meters into all houses to make it possible for householders to more easily understand where their electricity is being used and hence make it possible for opportunities to reduce use, and costs, to be targeted.

Compulsory campus-wide Climate Change & Sustainability unit for all Australian university students.

Description

This would be a required unit for all university courses run by lecturers and key public authorities who have an understanding of broad sustainability and climate change issues. The aim of the unit would be to inform university students about such issues, including practical suggestions for making significant positive changes to their lifestyles.
